This month, I had the privilege of visiting Sir Richard Branson at Necker Island with a group of fellow entrepreneurs. While the purpose of my visit was not to map the island, once I reached its beautiful shores I had to share it with the world.
Using the DJI Inspire 1 and Skycatch COMMANDER app, I was able to create an orthomap and 3D point cloud of the island in minutes.
It was amazing how easy it was to map even in a completely foreign environment, and the Inspire performed like a champ even under the high winds. When I think back to my early days flying RC helicopters year ago, it's incredible to see how far drone technology has come to allow such a feat.
Even Sir Richard Branson was psyched to get a look at the island rendered in 3D. It was a perspective he hadn’t seen before.
What do you think will be the most positive use of drones in the years to come? https://t.co/QlLEDUlWyv pic.twitter.com/H1xfZqiQuv

The applications of drone data are seemingly infinite. Whether it's mapping islands for environmental conservation or construction sites for project management, we're just at the tip of the iceberg of what drone data can do.
What will you map with your drone?
